We proudly provide person centred care which is driven by the wishes and desires of residents as well as being planned to meet individual care needs. All care team at Mountpleasant Lodge are either registered nurses or trained care assistants to ensure the needs of our residents will be met in a professional and person centred manner.
The social engagement of our residents is very important to us at Mountpleasant and while led by the Social Care Leader it is considered to be the responsibility of all staff working in the home. Life in the home is for living and enjoying.
We take great time to get to know our residents, their families and their lives before they come to live with us so we can meaningfully engage with them and plan with them how they wish to spend their days. Social interaction and activities are a natural part of everyday life In Mountpleasant and the smallest of opportunities are taken to bring enjoyment to all of us. We also arrange for entertainers to come into the home and for residents to go out on trips. We like to have fun!
Mountpleasant Lodge Nursing Home was purpose built in 2009 and offers homely, high standard accommodation to 81 residents. The Home has since been reconstructed and thoughtfully designed to enable the best level of care to be provided to our residents living with or without a dementia. The bright spacious living areas with their beautiful views bring the tranquillity of the countryside, mature trees, splattering of livestock in the neighbouring field’s right into the home.
Mountpleasant Lodge residents also enjoy an internal courtyard garden with beautiful flower beds, patio areas and plenty of garden furniture for them and their families to relax in during the long summer days.
All rooms are single with ensuite wheelchair accessible facilities and have been tastefully decorated but residents are welcome to personalise their room by bringing in precious items from their own home. The ground floor has 42 single ensuite bedrooms and 4 large living cum dining areas complete with a traditional old style kitchenette: The Paddocks, The Avenue, The Courtyard and The Gables.
The majority of residents living on the ground floor live with a dementia and the four lounges are designed environmentally to match the different stages of the journey of dementia experienced by residents. The corridors and walls are also designed to stimulate and meaningfully engage the residents living in Mountpleasant. The first floor has 39 single ensuite bedrooms, a lovely dining room and a number of cosy sitting rooms as well as a smoking room, hair salon and a specialised snoezelen multisensory room.
Care Options Available
Long Term Care: Mountpleasant Lodge provides long term care to the frail elderly and those living with physical challenges. We have also earned a reputation of excellence in providing specialised person centered dementia care.
Dementia Care: The team at Mountpleasant Lodge worked with Dementia Care Matters UK for an intensive yearlong set of programmes on staff awareness and training to successfully achieve a change of care culture from a traditional model to a person centered, feelings based model. In our person centered care culture, care is driven by the wishes and preferences of residents, particularly those living with a dementia rather than being driven by an institutionalised task based model.
During the change of dementia care culture project the nursing home was substantially reconstructed and professionally designed in keeping with best practice dementia care to establish four distinct homely lounges meeting the needs of residents living with or in one of the four stages that are recognised as occurring during the journey of dementia. There is an abundance of interesting items and ‘stuff’ carefully selected and available in lounges to provide appropriate stimulation for residents and to assist staff to enter and share a residents reality in a comforting and supportive manner. The corridors and walls are colourful, upbeat and stimulating to provide interaction and enjoyment for residents and families walking through them. Residents each have their own traditional style front door to their private space within the home. The feedback from residents, families, staff and professionals living and working with us is very positive.
Convalescent: We offer convalescent care to patients discharged from hospital following surgery and /or medical episodes and requiring some extra medical, nursing and rehabilitative care before going home. We are approved for a number of private healthcare providers. At Mountpleasant we will provide respite care to older persons on a private basis or in conjunction with the HSE.
Respite Care: Mountpleasant Lodge also provide respite care to older persons on a private basis or in conjunction with the HSE. This service provides well deserved breaks to family carers caring for older persons in the community.
FirstCare Group help all our residents and family understand what is available to them with the Nursing Homes Support Scheme, better known as ‘Fair Deal Funding’. Under the Nursing Homes Support Scheme, you will make a contribution towards the cost of your care and the State will pay the balance.
This applies whether the nursing home is public, private or voluntary. The Fair Deal Scheme does not apply, however, to Convalescent or Respite care in a nursing home. Applicants for residency in a FirstCare home cannot avail of State funding for a nursing home place prior to receiving approval of their Fair Deal application. For further information on the Fair Deal Funding Scheme and the application process please visit “Our Guide to Fair Deal Funding” or contact the FirstCare Support Office on (01) 2020799.
