President Michael D. and Sabina Higgins host an afternoon tea reception for active retirement groups from all around the country as often as possible. They see it as vital to pay tribute to people of all ages and circumstances who are working to build solidarity and cohesion in our country. Since his inauguration, President Higgins has made a determined effort to invite as many members of community groups to the Áras as possible, and our FirstCare homes are no exception.
On April 9th, the residents of Beneavin House started the day with a trip over to Phoenix Park to visit the stately home of our beloved President. There was an initial meeting in the gorgeous Francini Corridor, where sculpted bronze heads of past presidents looked on. Next, it was off to tea (or wine if one was so inclined) in the State Dining Room with plenty of snacks and finger sandwiches to go around. President Higgins spoke to the residents at length on the importance of community groups, and took special care to introduce himself and chat with our residents.
All in all, it was a very successful day out, and it was lovely to see the care that Michael D. and Sabina put into hearing from our elderly community groups. Both staff and residents had a wonderful time, as is clearly evident from the big smiles in the photos. Looking forward to our next day out!
