We all know that Summer is on its way when the invitation to the FirstCare BBQ’s arrive in the post. Residents, families and staff look forward to the social event of the Summer season and enjoy a day packed full with good food, lively entertainment and excellent company. All of the BBQ’s were really well attended this year and enjoyable days were had by all.
Beneavin House Nursing Home in Glasnevin kicked off the BBQ season in FirstCare on 27th June with their 1950′s themed event. Staff and some adventurous family members dressed to impress in their 1950′s costumes and danced along to 50′s inspired music. The food was excellent and plentiful and a fantastic day was had by all.
Beneavin House proved a tough act to follow but the residents and staff in Beneavin Lodge Nursing Home rose to the occasion on Sunday 28th June.
Almost 250 residents and their families filled the courtyard in Beneavin Lodge to feast on burgers, chicken, sausages, cold meats and Salmon, salads and of course an amazing array of freshly prepared desserts. There was a sing along to the old favourites while the more energetic of our residents danced the day away to the live music. The sound of laughter and good cheer filled the air on a day that will be remembered for a long time.
Mountpleasant Lodge nursing home in Kilcock held their BBQ on Friday 11th July. The sun shone brightly over the beautiful Co.Kildare countryside and residents donned colourful hats while staff dressed in grass skirts and flower garlands for the hawaiian themed event. There was music and dancing for the residents and their adult guests while face painters provided entertainment for the youngsters. One could not have asked for a more idyllic setting than the central courtyard in Mountpleasant Lodge in Kilcock which was bedecked with bunting while the heady aroma of the flowers planted in the spring by the residents enhanced the hawaiian theme.
Earlsbrook House in Bray Co. Wicklow also chose an amazing day for their annual Summer BBQ. The date of Saturday 12th July co-incided with the Summer festival in Bray so the entire town was in a celebratory mood. The residents in Earlsbrook House had decided on a Butterflies and Flowers theme which saw Earlsbrook House transform into a vertiable explosion of colour. The residents and their family embraced the theme wholeheartedly and wore butterfly patterned clothes and flowers in their hair. As always, Eamon, the chef in Earlsbrook House provided an outstanding BBQ selection as well as beef strogonoff, chicken curry and rice and a selection of cold meats, dressed salmon, salads and desserts that actually looked too good to eat.
Blainroe Lodge in Co. Wicklow certainly made the most of their enviable seaside location and beautifully remodelled courtyard gardens when they hosted their BBQ on Saturday 19th July. It was a truly beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky and everyone was in good spirits from the outset. The sense of space and colour in Blainroe Lodge needs to be seen to believed and the lively music only served to compliment the generally relaxed, chilled out atmosphere in Blainroe Lodge. Residents and their guests lingered in the gardens well after the food was gone and the music had finished obviously loathe to call an end to such a magical day.
The inclement weather on the day of the Northrook House BBQ did nothing to dampen the spirits of the residents and their families. Although, we managed to serve the BBQ outdoors in the beautiful garden, It was a day of brilliant sunshine and heavy showers which saw families rush in and out of the garden area when the sun shone or the rain fell. Northbrook House has a charm all of its on and the roars of laughter when families were rushing through the conservatory out of the rain echoed throughout the entire house. Desserts and Tea and coffee were served indoors in the conservatory and each of the two living areas while the musician wandered from room to room to entertain the residents and their guests.
