FirstCare were delighted to be the main sponsor of the County Wicklow Network for Older People Seminar which took place in the Glendalough Hotel in the 28th November 2013.
The Co. Wicklow Network for Older People, established in 2007, advocates on behalf of older people in Co. Wicklow in addition to hosting workshops and information seminars. Over 40 older peoples’ groups and organisations involving over 1,600 individuals engage with the organisation.
The annual seminar is attended by up to 300 older people, more than half of who live in the East Coast area in addition to representatives from Wicklow Co. Council, Co. Wicklow Partnership and elected members to Wicklow Co. Council and Dail Eireann.
This year’s seminar focused on pursuing a Convention on human rights for older people. Simon Harris Minister of State at the Department of Finance delivered the opening address and John Lonergan, who was the Governer of Mountjoy Prison for over 22 years and author of “The Governer” was the keynote speaker. Presentations by Chief Superintendent Thomas Conway on the Launch of Bogus Caller Cards, Hilary Taylor on Babushka Boxes and Jackie O’Toole, Creative Director of PCHT (Person Centred Healthcare Training) also featured on the very interesting and informative seminar agenda.
